Not always peaceful on the pond

I saw this young turtle enjoying the midday sun today, peacefully basking on a log while a dragonfly  flew around it.  The dragonfly was perching  (it is just visible on the log behind the turtle) and then flying off for another short circuit before landing once again. I noticed the turtle moving its head around and then suddenly ……………………

the water seemed a much safer place to be.
